Comment on Incident:
He died on a med-evac mission near Hai Van Pass on March 30, 1971 in Thua Thien Province. On landing in the zone a command detonated mine tore the aircraft in half. Young was killed; the rest of the crew was injured. The crew was evacuated from the zone with support from UH-1 gun-ships, Cobras, OV-10s and A-4s.
Personal Narrative:
He was an E-4 in our squadron HMM-262, and was killed I believe on the above given date. His name in listed on "The Wall.” I believe they were hit with a RPG [rocket propelled grenade] during a medevac, but not sure about that. Thanks for checking this out.
