I was privliged to be in the 3rd Amphibious Corps as a member of VMTB 232 aboard ship this date 60 years ago for Operation Iceberg (Okinawa invasion). While most here were in Korea and or Vietnam there may be a few that were in that Operation. It was a life long big event for this 20 year old Marine (At that time) now over 80. I am sure most of you have been through Okinawa years since & the buildup now resembles Tokoyo with few signs of the terrific battle that took place there where 9,700 Marines & Navy medical personnel gave their all .While Iwo Jima was a great battle taking place in the same time frame, Okinawa was a larger operation that was in the shadow of the gallant battle at Iwo Jima. Very few of my old friends are left from that time, however I have many from both the Korean conflict & Vietnam. Semper Fi PM
