As part of the new financial rules established by the Congress, I have been completing lots of forms for my company.

I just received a discrepency letter from an idiot in some useless department in the commonwealth of virginia [sic, lower case intentional] to "...revise the brochure supplement to eliminate the reference to being a Vietnam Veteran and helicopter pilot." Strangely, if I take the instructions literally, I may keep reference to serving in The Marine Corps.

The brochure is required. In it I am expected to describe my educational and business experience for the bureaucrats.

Since when is service as a Marine in Vietnam in a helicopter squadron neither an educational experience nor a management / leadership experience?

I submit that this clown should go to the brig. He deserves nothing more.

Post your thoughts, please.

Gentlemen, Marines,

We are getting ready for the NOTAM board programmers come in and rebuild the site so it can be repaired in the next 36 hours (most likely 3-4). During this upgrade the NOTAM board may go black and white, avatars may disapear or even go offline. Once repaired we can readjust to our standards and avatars but this fix is required to get the site back to functional.

Visions section will also be taken offline for a few days so we can get the recent submissions posted, all the categories created and filled and final the design.
Is there a place on popasmoke or elsewhere that tracks aircraft accidents and those who were lost in them? I was assigned to MARTD NAS Alameda from Feb 1971 thru June 1975 as an active duty member of the I&I Staff. The reserve squadrons assigned at that time were VMA-133 flying A4C Skyhawks and HMH-769 flying CH-53A Sea Stallions.

The frst week of July in 1974, I was a Corporal, and the reservists of HMH-769 were sent TAD for training at NAS Fallon, Nevada. On 26 July 1974, a CH-53A departed Fallon enroute to our home base at NAS Alameda, and broke apart mid-air after slinging its blades as a result of a "Jesus" nut failure near a roadside rest stop outside of Vallejo, CA, killing all 6 Marines onboard the aircraft. Cpl. McHunter Lee Tipton was one of those who died, a fantastic Marine and friend of mine, after replacing me on the flight at the last minute before take-off. For 38 years, I have woke up every day and thought of the first six Marines, and the one who gave me my life... I do not recall the bureau number of the aircraft, but I believe the side number was 483.

Over the years, I participated in two other aircraft accident investigations (as a documentary photographer) and shortly after the Storm (during April 1992) I retired after 22 years service as a Gunnery Sergeant. If there is a place online to honor these Marines, I have the names (both active duty and reservist), dates and locations. SEMPER FI.

My purpose in this life is not to be carried to the grave in a beautifully well preserved body with no nicks and dings; but to skid in sideways at 100+ miles an hour, slam worn out by the good things I've tried to accomplish and screaming "HOLY SMOKES!! WHAT A RIDE!! 'Nuf sed.

On 10 June 1969 there was a section of Huey's of VMO-6 and a section of 46's enroute into the DMZ to rescue three Recon Teams (one was recon team American Beauty) The dash two Huey was shot down by AAA fire as the aircraft were entering the DMZ. As I understand it two 46's, a fast mover and some other aircraft had already been shot down (I was the gunner in the lead bird---L/Cpl TT Constantine). The pilot of the shot down aircraft was 1st Lt Joe Sturtevant (I am posting this for him) The co-pilot was LtCol AK Charlton the squadron CO his first flight just back from R&R. Joe Sturtevant has been researching this event and wants info from the 46 crew who rescued them.

Joe Sturtevant contacted me a couple months ago and inquired about the event and I had to stop and think about it, I cannot recall whether the 46's were Chatterbox or Cattlecall.

Thanks for the W/C assist---you can take the time off your man hour accounting!

Within the next 24 hours several looks and just slightly the "feel" of popasmoke.com will be changed to the end phase of progression. It is possible for something to not work exactly as you remember it - but we are striving to keep changes as minimal as possible. The links on the left of the homepage may be slightly different color of size depending on your computer settings and several "bookmarks" or "favorites" may have to be updated.

The NOTAM link will remain the same as will most of the website but if the actual name changed the information WILL still be available through the respective links on the left.

Over the next week we will be rolling out several sections from old the platform to the end stage. Bear with us if something is not exactly the same and feel free to let us know so we can address the issues we might somehow miss; if it is an intended difference we will also let it be known.

Thanks once again for all the patience as the end is coming in view; once everything is at the end stage then we can easily identify bugs and fix them without guessing if it is software issues etc
