Camp Carroll, just south of the Mutter's Ridge area, was named for Captain Carroll.
Captain James J. Carroll, USMC, was killed in action 05 October 1966
From the Citation for the Navy Cross:
"By his outstanding leadership, unlimited courage,
and utmost devotion to duty,
Captain Carroll reflected great credit upon himself
and upheld the highest traditions
of the Marine Corps and the United Stated Naval Service."
