    UH "Huey" CAS

    Gents,
I am trying to do a little homework, well trying to put a history leason together for my UH-1N crewchiefs.
One of our missions with the Huey as you all know is CAS "Close Air Support". I am trying to find out when the fist doccumented use of the Marine Corps Huey for CAS was, and any lessons learned over the years, to include weapons used and tactics.

    Right now we use GAU-17 Mini-guns, GAU-16 .50 cal's, M-240d's, and 2.75in rockes.
I figure that the Army used them Nov. 1965 in Landing Zone X-Ray.

    Thanks,

    SSgt Gunther

  2. VMO-2 was flying armed escort missions as early as May 1965. That same month, during ops near Chu Lai, a Huey that came under fire strafed the enemy position.
