8 January 1984: A Marine is killed by unidentified assailants as he exits a helicopter at a landing zone on the edge of downtown Beirut. The helicopter flew to safety, after returning fire with its machine guns.

We believe it occurred with the helicopter squadron attached to the 22th MAU at the time, which may also be the squadron that participated in the Grenada intervention.
