50th Anniversary of Marine Corps Deployment to Vietnam

April 15, 2012 will mark the 50th Anniversary of the first deployment of a Marine Corps operational unit to Vietnam. That’s when HMM-362, under the command of Lt. Col. Archie Clapp, flew into Soc Trang, in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta as part of Task Unit 79.3.5 code named SHUFLY.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of this historic deployment, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation will present a panel featuring Marines who served at Soc Trang to w talk about the challenges they faced, the missions they flew and what life was like during those early days of the Vietnam War.

The dinner and lecture will be held Thursday evening April 12 at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia, just outside the front gate of MCB, Quantico.
Mark the date on your calendar now and make plans to attend. Details on registering for the dinner and lecture will be provided as they become available.
