Exclamation Randy Heigele HML-167 Fighting Dragons

If anyone knows my father please respond. Excuse me now if I mess up on terminology I've just begun the journey so I'm learning as I go. My father was enlisted for about four years so it was from 66-70. I would love to hear from anyone that could give me information about him. I lost my father in 2002 to melanoma. This is the only part of my dad's life that I know nothing about. Although I completely understand why he didn't discuss it I've stumbled on a few things which have left me wanting to know more and I feel so HONORED to say "THAT'S MY DAD"
I have also attached a picture.

That is a start because their are ALL kinds of Marines that have serve with HML 167 and now if you find out any more places will continue the path. He looks a bit like a few people I was with, and that is what will spark others to look. God Speed you on your mission!

Thank you for the encouragement! I have to admit I'm feeling a little lost not having much knowledge on how things are run in the military. For example you said a lot of Marines served with HML-167. I wasn't aware Marines switched units? So is a unit done by location?
I haven't received his 201 file yet. I found a patch with the Fighting Dragon and the unit number on it. So far its all I have until the papers arrive.

I have the master roster of all Marines that served in Vietnam with HML-167 (900+) between April 1968 and May 1971. Your dad's name is on the roster, but I have no dates on when he was in the squadron. I was in the squadron Dec. 1969 to Dec. 1970.

You can obtain a complete copy of your father's military records jacket from the St. Louis Vetrans Record Center by simply submitting a form on-line.

The link to this site is......http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/ .

This the main page to the site. I think the form you are looking for is SF180 - but it's all explained on the main page.

The records jacket that they will send you will include all of your father's assignments with time-lines; awards; campaigns; discharge; evaluations; etc.
Once you find out when your father was in HML-167, assuming he was with them in VietNam, you can then go even further and get his flight time records if he earned combat aircrew wings and an Air Medal.

    HOPE THIS HELPS.

Let us know if we can be of further assistance.

    Regards,
    Regards,
