TC,
a 6413 was a recip engine mechanic, back in the day, I was one back in 1966-67. A CH-46 CC was a 6421 then and memory (which as you may already know, ain't close to 100% accurate) serves that a '34 CC might have been a 6422....

Looking back in my qual. jacket (1960's) I'm listed as a 6332, A/C recip. mech., 6123, Helo mech., 6028, A/C and engine mech. I was a qualified UH-34D C/C with these MOS's.
I do seem to remember that the first UH-34D MOS was 6113. Can't remember the year, and can't find it in my qual. jacket or my DD-214.

Thought 6481 was a helicopter man for all of them . Back in 1942 after 6 Months Navy AMM ( Aviations Machinst Mate) it was 747 than added A single engine B dual engine however that was for any A/C all systems. In fact we were certified by the than CAA as A & P mechanics. & you were listed as Air Crew Over the years I had several MOS 6413, 6419, 6481, & 0130 after Sgt Major school.. Now The Corp doesnt even recognize that as applies to Crew member because its not in the Damn computer !!! I am surprised anymore that they recognize some of us was even in the CORP since the computer didnt hach us & some GS nine in Hqrs CMC makes the judgement !!

In 1968 a UH-34 Mech/Crew Chief was a 6332,
Later I was a 53 Crew Chief it was 6113
The Helicopter Mechanic MOS has changed over the years. In 1968-69, the MOS for a Reciprocating Engine Helicopter Mechanic was 6332. Crewchief was an additional duty/qualification without a separate MOS. In early 1970, Headquarter, Marine Corps (HQMC) reorganized the MOSs and an UH-34D Helicopter Mechanic became MOS 6115. UH-34D Crewchief was still an additional duty/qualification without a separate MOS. In 1972-73 after the UH-34D had been retired, HQMC redesignated everyone holding the primary MOS 6115 with a different primary MOS according the type helicopter that they had transitioned to; or the type helicopter squadron they were working in. HQMC dropped MOS 6115 from the MOS manual. Sometime in the late seventies or early eighties, HQMC reestablished MOS 6115 as the MOS for CH-53E Helicopter Mechanics. About 1984, HQMC added a Secondary MOS of 6167 Helicopter Crewchief to your primary helicopter mechanic MOS (CH-46—6112, CH-53D—6113, etc) so that they could track Crewchiefs and ensure squadrons were receiving qualified personnel. By 1988, HQMC had designated Crewchief as a separate MOS according to type helicopter (CH-46—6172; CH-53—6173; etc), with a formal Naval Aviation Air Crewmember Candidate School held at NAS Pensacola, FL. All new crewchiefs were designated from enlistment and attended this school. No longer were crewchiefs developed and trained in each helicopter squadron. This change gave HQMC the ability to standardize training and tracking and develop duties and responsibilities that were separate from a helicopter mechanic. It was no longer an additional duty/qualification that a helicopter mechanic could strive to achieve. As far as I know, it continues that way today.
