H&MS-16 MMAF VC KILLS Sign
|
Photo by Bob Greer , Bob was one of the Combat Air Crew Gunners flying with LCpl George T. Curtis, Crew Chief , YZ-14 out of the HMM-363s Avionics shop. Bob took this photo when he checked into the H&MS Avionics shop in Oct 66. Apparently MMAF was hit hard on Oct 27th 1965 and the main enemy force ran into the Avionics Night Crew. They made a good showing for themselves with M-14s and a Greese Gun. Bob says this sign is proof that A Marine is a Marine reguardless of MOS. Bob Greer was an OUTSTANDING Marine and a great gunner, always worked hard and kept his eye on the target. LCPL Mike Parr H&MS Avionics (GYSGT USMC Ret) says the sapper attack of MMAF was on the night of 27 Oct 65. The sappers came over the hill in the area of bunker #17 of the old perimeter defense of Zulu Co. which was established as a result of the attack. This was in the old H&MS area on the NW corner of MMAF at the end of the original mat area on the West side of the old short runway.
