MAG-36 hootches
PhuBai 1968-69
Comment by: Kevin Veleke on Sep 13, 2007 11:02 PM
I was in Phu Bai from Sep 69 to Nov 69 with MABS-36 as its Materiel Officer. MABS-36 Supply is not shown in this photo, but I did walk the streets in the photos. MAG-36 and its operating squadron, including MABS-36 withdrew from Vietnam in Nov 69 and was moved to MCAS Futema, Okinawa. While in Phu Bai, I remember the horrendous rain storm around the first week of Oct, I beleive, where it rained over a foot in a day and something like 23 inches that week. MABS-36 Supply was at the low end of the base, thus much of the water ended up in our area. In matter of fact, the men had to get place bunk extensions on their beds to get them above the water level. Also, rubber boots that were available did no good because the water level was above the tops of boots. What a memory!
