I KNOW ONE OF THE YOUNG CREW CHIEFS IN THE PICTURE. I CAN'T IMAGE WHAT HE SAW AND WHAT HE REMEMBERS. I DO KNOW THAT I AM PROUD TO KNOW HIM AND WHAT HE DID FOR ME AND MY COUNTRY. HE ALWAYS SAYS IT WASN'T A BIG DEAL BUT HE IS SO WRONG IT WAS A VERY BIG DEAL. HE ALSO CAME HOME WITH A SILVER STAR. A SILVER STAR AT AGE 19 WOW.....I NEVER FORGET THAT ANNIVERSARY. -Submitted by: T C EVERETT [TDYER@1STTRUST.NET] 2006-05-26

The only crew chief I remember from April 1969 is Triple A . I think his last name was Arkin. The only pilot I remember was CPT David Bradley. -Submitted by: Vincent Vanasse [grt772@gmail.com] 2010-05-30

This piture was taken the day that HMM-165 left Marble Mountain for Okinawa, August 1969. It was the first Marine Corps squadron to leave Vietnam. The trip took two daysand we were embarqued on the USS VALLEY FORGE (LPH Cool, a WW2 Essex class carrier that was converted to an LPH. She still had the straighht deck, wooden flight deck of the original. I took the picture. Anyway I have the negative and the original 3x5 print, which is good enough for me. -Submitted by: John Dullighan [Jdullighan@aol.com] 2010-12-23

I remember all of these crew chiefs but I can name only five of them. Starting on your left is Jim Kinney, next to him is Mike Brida, next to him is Arlin Austin. The third person from the right back row is Joe DiLullo, and next to him in front is Roger Taylor, aka (RIP). I was on the advanced party to Futima Okinawa, where I met up with them.
