Christmas Dinner 1968

Comment by: Dale A. Riley on Feb 3, 2010 07:10 PM
This photo was sent to me by LtCol. A.N. Allen. I met him after forty years at the HMM-262 2009 reunion. How could I forget my CO? I did not expect him to remember me. I told him how every year I would think back to my first Christmas really away from home, so far away, so different from the snow covered hills of western Pa. How I remember a long day of delivering hot chow to every LZ we could find along with Santa and what some would call a decorated tree. He told me of a photo he had from the Navy Times taken by SSgt Shearer of the 3rd MarDiv as we approached Mutters Ridge 12/25/68 with Santa and supplies for Easy 2/3. There is a letter from MSGT Joseph H. Prokop USMC Retired who was a 19 year old gunner that day. It is on the Old Tiger site at www.hmm-262combatvets.com in the Library Now if I can just find the co-pilot and second gunner the picture would be complete.
