This photo was taken after landing in the small village. We shut down and were sitting inbetween the raised walls of the little fortress. As we sat there minding our own business, we started taking incoming rifle fire from a tree line across some paddys. The M-60 gunner could not see the location of the sniper as rounds cracked over our heads. Then a young Marine, I believe he was a lt. climbed on top of the bunker jut off to our Port side and using a pair of binoculars located the firing position and directed the gunner to lay down some suppressing fire. He just stood there spotting for the grunts until Charlie decided he was either dead or that he might try improving his marksmanship somewhere else. We immediately cranked up and flew out as i snapped the egress photos from my gunners port porthole.
