I was in a 46 that was the last one to exit a L.Z. when some NVA were spotted and the gunners on the 50s both started laying down fire. I thought the helicopter was going to shake apart. Months later on Operation Dewey Canyon I was on Tiger Mountain at L.Z. Turnage and had just had the bunker I was in blown open by a 82 mortar round. We'd been taking fire every time a load of ammo for the artillery battery on the hill took resupply and a 46 that had just pulled out saw a flash from the mortar tube. 4 CH-46s circled clockwise and then counter clockwise while the gunners emptied their 50s on the enemy mortar site and put an end to the harassment from them that had been going on for days. -Submitted by: Warner DeFord [deford39@gmail.com] 2008-12-09
