February is BLACK HISTORY MONTH

February is Black History Month and I always remember The FINEST SGTMAJ I knew. Here is a photo of then GySgt Fred Douglas serving his second Nam tour, with HML-367. GySgt Douglas flew many Prairie Fire SOG Missions and was selected for promotion to 1stSgt in 1969 and served as Scarface SGTMAJ at Phu Bai. He was my SGTMAJ then in Vietnam, I was a Cpl. He was my SGTMAJ for 4 years when I was a GySgt and promoted me to MSgt. SGTMAJ Fred Douglas was KIA in Beirut on 23 Oct 83 just 6 months short of 30 years and retirement. I served in Beirut in 83 - 84 and I am Proud to have known him. SGTMAJ Fred Douglas is a large part of the Marine Corps Black History. All who were fortunate enough to know and serve with him , know how I feel.
