This CH-53 was in HMH-462. When we arrived in Vietnam our call sign was Seagrams. This was aircraft number 7 and the crew chief was Cpl Kec who painted the Seagrams 7 on his plane. I flew quite a few missions in this bird as the gunner prior to being commissioned. Cpl Kec was an excellent crew chief and kept this plane in great shape. Correction: While currently attending a 40 year reunion of the original HMH-462 that deployed to Vietnam in 1968, I have learned that I incorrectly identified the crew chief of YF-7. The actual crew chief is/was Tom Herman, who is also here in Pensacola attending the reunion. I was further reminded that this aircraft was the first med-evac helo to land at LZ Russell after an early morning sapper attack on 25 February 1969. I was the door gunner on that emergency med-evac as well. My apologies to Tom Herman. Semper Fi - Duke Dearing -Submitted by: Duke Dearing [Duke7577@aol.com] 2009-09-16
