Welcome Home, I remember the photo well sure is good to see ole snoop dog once again I cant remember the squadron off hand it,s been over a week! There were several versions of the pic. my favorite Is him sitting on top of his dog house , long black scarf around his neck blowin in the wind. He was holding a 60 with rattttttttttttt painted below his house And He was saying TAKE THIS YOU RED BARON YOU! The photo on your chopper. was a medivac bird I,ve flown many chop chop rides with ole Snoop Dog I served 4 tours on the USS OKINAWA LPH-3 66,67,68,69 The good ole usn deep sixed her last September in 2020 fathoms north of Hawaii by the SSN PORTSMITH I have an aerial pic. of the tarpedo hitting her at the fwd. of the port elevator dad gom navy never ask my permission! The Snoopy image does indeed belong to H&MS-17, MWSG-17, DaNang. I was with the unit from April 1969 thru Feb 1971. The wing pulled out of RVN late 1970 and relocated back to Iwakuni. This particular image, I believe, was one of the many signs that adorned our bunkers and/or hooches. C-117D tail # 122 also had the Snoopy image as nose art with the words “Miss Olongapo City” underneath. Thank you for including something from H&MS-17 as I started to believe it was all a dream and it never existed. We flew H-34’s, C-117D’s, US-2B’s, C-1’s and after going back to Japan we took on several C-54’s and lost the H-34’s.
