A great Crew Chief. They made sure the Helo was ready to fly.

And (sometimes) even the pilot!!!

Brian:

"is VMO-2 the modern day HMLA-267?"

VMO-2 is the ONE and ONLY VMO-2. Squadrons may evolve to another name and squadron, but I am biased--

VMO-2 is the ONE and ONLY VMO-2

I like to think they were the BEST of everything
Pilots, Crew, Avionics, Tin Benders and ALL the rest.

Just my humble opinion.

No, it was VMO-5. (If you really want to get picky, it was Sub Unit 1, H&MS-30 before it was VMO-5).

According to my log books this was the time I spent there in the following units: Oct-'66-Dec'66-Sub Unit 1, H&Ms-30, 3DMAW; Dec'66-Mar'68-VMO-5 MHTG-30, 3d MAW; Mar '68-Oct'68, HML-267, MAG-56, 3rdMAW all at CAMPEN. After that, I went back to RVN in the OV-10, back to VMO-2.

VMO-2 transition

Right with Lanny O.

VMO-5 CampPen) sent UH-1E's to HML-267 while preparing to accept delivery of Broncos in early 1968.

VMO-2 (MAG-16 - MMAF) transitioned from UH-1 and AH-1 helicopters to Broncos in RVN, switched to MAG-11 (DaNang - fixed wing MAG).

It remained in Broncos until it was decommissioned in 1993 after Desert Storm I. During its time in RVN, VMO-2 flew O-1 Birddogs, UH-1 Hueys (E model), OV-10 Broncos (A model), and AH-1 Cobras (G model).
