My husband, sonar tech, volunteered from the USS Sacramento & left on a helicopter, Navy or Marine unknown, although another sailor left with the Marines. He told about needing to pull a transparency every day to calculate the altitude presumably needed to avoid friendly anti-aircraft fire. I know most helos didn't do that. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Nothing in his records about this at all, but I found a buddy who said he did leave on a helo.
I know we were very concerned with all the shells flying around from fire bases and naval ships. You’d have to speak with a pilot but I remember hearing about headings, arcs and altitudes as we were heading to the zones.
@Dale-A-Riley Thank you for your reply, very much appreciated! That's interesting information. I haven't been able to connect with a pilot!
