Connie Silard flew West yesterday.  He was a force of nature, epitomizing the "Old Breed" for us younger Marines.  Connie was our XO in Scarface from 1970 until 71.  He rode herd on us Lieutenants and gained our unending respect both on the ground and in the air.  Connie joins his wife of 58 years who passed away last November.  Fair winds and following seas, Connie.  Semper Fidelis, Sir.

Good Morning Mr. Simmons:

I'm looking for anyone that knew my father.

I worked with Con Silard at INET in Bethesda MD.  He flew combat support for my dad while in Vietnam in 1969-70.  I met him and found out he was a Marine in Vietnam and flew Helicopters.  I asked him if he knew my dad, he said no.  But then I asked him if he knew my Godfather RK Slack.  He responded "how do YOU know RK Slack".  I told him he was my Godfather.  I then brought a picture of my dad when he got his Major pinned on.  I said, are you SURE you don't know my dad?  He said to me "Robbie Robinson was your dad, we need to talk".  He told me a lot about his time with my dad's squadron while in Vietnam.

My dad was an XO of the squadron but I don't know the name or where.  Con told me that my dad was a hero, that he would fly into areas other pilots wouldn't or couldn't.  My dad was Lt.Col. Richard (Robbie) L. Robinson.  If you flew with Con, you might have flown under my dad or at least knew him.

I lost my dad after he retired from the Marines, we were living in Malaysia.  He was still flying, but he was there teaching the "Royal Malaysian Air Force" to fly helicopters.  He died in a helicopter accident in October of 1972.  He had just turned 43.

I've seen Popasmoke during Memorial Day on the mall, I used to ride in Rolling Thunder.  I asked if they knew or remembered my dad, but no one did.  When I did the search for Con...and saw your name, I thought I would reach out to see if maybe you knew anything about my dad.  So any information would be appreciated.

Regards,

Terry K. Robinson (Ms.)
