OK..I've read through a good number of posts about the V-22 Osprey. Let's stop and take a look at something here.
1. The V-22 Osprey is the worlds first "tilt-rotor:
This means, any other comparision to current inventory aircraft or helios, is like comparing a watermelon to an orange to a pinapple. You CAN'T. And shouldn't. It's not fair to the present inventory or the V-22 Osprey. ONLY TIME AND OUR BELOVED USAF AND USMC CAN AND WILL DETERMINE THE OSPREYs SUCCESS!
2. The V-22 Ospreys maintence record is absolutly great for new "fly by wire" airframes.
The F-22, the F-18, the F-16 the B-2, the F-117A (all fly by wire), have similar avionics architectures. (I've worked all the USAF types above)
3. Bell-Boeing does not own this airframe nore it's design.
(The US Government, via Dryden Space Research owns the patent, and is leasing the design to Bell-Boeing, who stepped up devlopement into advanced research in the 60's) They stand to loose and gain as much as the USAF and USMC.
4. And Finally, todays media is extremly critical of any goverment spending. If we had this type of media coverage during the Wright Brothers first development and first flight. It would read, " bi-cycle maker crash lands on North Carolina beach after trying to fly like a bird."

PS. The V-22 is something I know pretty well...It's been my office for about 5 years now. I'm a Functional Technician in Amarillo. It's not the first helo nore airframe I've ever worked on, and I've seen the transition from LRIP, to RTF, to Block A and now Block B. It's ever evolving, like the technology it self. And needs to be looked at as just that. Ever evolving, and NEW technology.
