History on an Old Dawg #405

I doubt that there is a plate anywhere on it with a buno but I did notice in some of the photos that the cowling on the back had been painted red at one time and we had a squadron in Vietnam with those cowls painted red as well.
May be if someone near it could look up close and personal at it they just might find a manufacturers plate somewhere still attached!

If you could give me more information of where you bought 405 from, I could probably identify which one you have and provide you with a full service history. The BuNo was usually applied near the tail wheel, but if that has been removed, the manufacturers data plate which will give the BuNo can be found on the side of the transmission drive shaft housing that runs between the pilots seats. Failing that, I can tell you where else to look for another plate which should identify your helicopter.

Regards

Sid

Uh-34d Id

Uncle Ed:

Occasionally the whole BuNo can be found outside the co-pilot's window. 149333 had the BuNo stamped on the top side of the flat piece of metal just outside the co-pilot's window. Some A/C had it there and others NOT. It may be painted over too. It's worth a shot. Good luck and Semper Fi.

J Baugher

The link kindly provided is the work of J Baugher. I found him while patting at researching the crafts to compare w/ T's flight logs. Without his site, searching was a stab in the dark as contacting any military or govt offices was like molasses move.

Please be sure to acknowledge him.

Thank you.

According to a Navy listing of aircraft damage incidents 145761 was assigned to HMM-363 on 12 Dec 1965. That day it suffered Bravo damage with 1 major and 1 minor injury.

The Navy list shows 145781 (HMM-263) suffered Alpha damage with 1 KIA and 2 WIA on 2 Apr 1966. Joe Baugher's site shows it as being written off the next day.

150557 was assigned to HMM-263. I found 9 entries for this aircraft. All Echo damage, only 1 Bravo injury (14 Mar 67).

I haven't found anything for the other 3 yet.
