I'm trying to prove that I received a Purple Heart in HMM-161 which was presented at a squadron formation by our CO then Maj. Carr (The Rock) from the LZ Junior crash (690423) in which Lt. Barr was killed.
During my tour at HQMC MMEA-84A (6100 Aviation Monitor Division May 83 - May 86) I tried several times to get information from the HQMC Awards Division but to no avail. Seems there is no record of me receiving the Purple Heart, it was not entered in my personnel record or HQMC records. I had the actual medal and documents in a box in my seabag that I shipped home so I didn't have to have to carry it. Seabag arrived fine but customs failed to put the box back in. When I arrived at MCAS New River 2-70 I tried to trace the missing box but no one could locate it.
I have reviewed the command chronology CD's for Jan 69 - Jan 70 and did not find any information to help.
I'm sure there must be a record of this somewhere. I have the address of the records division at Quantico and am sending them one more letter, maybe in the move to Quantico they found the folder that was missing for so many years.
If anyone has information or knowledge of this place contact me.
