Hello Gentlemen, On behalf of Bill McBride, a recon member, I'd like to try and assist in the identification and possible contact with the crew of a pipe smoking pilot that participated in the extraction of Team Fire Raider. However Al Barbour seemed to have better luck. Coords: 045622 expended 100 rds 50 cal 6 passengers (3 medevac sorties) The following morning, 3 June, HMM-161 flew one mission with crew of Maj Loop (Squadron Maintenance Officer)/Clayton/Atkins/Womack/Gaveson departed 0800 for 1.5 hr flight, picking up 9 passengers. One sortie was for a Recon mission. A second flight of HMM-161 Crew of LtCol Elam (Squadron Commanding Officer)/Bonner/Matheney/Purvis/Ingrahm/Muth departed at 0845 for 1.5 hr flight on Mission 555 which was a Sensor Drop. They picked up 2 passengers while flying 3 recon sorties after the Sensor Drop. No enemy action reported. This may help. The command chronolgy has some narrative but is hard to read. Info available online on Texas Tech virtual.vietnam.ttu.edu archive under HMM-161 After Action Report for 1June1969, pp 220-223 and Command Chronology for 1 June 1969.
