As VMM-263 prepares to deploy I've been in touch with my old squadron mate and the current CO.

He put me in touch with the current "keeper of the APE". Having held that post during our shield/storm float in '90-'91 I offered to find out more details of the origin. Legend had the APE joining 263 during Vietnam as a result of some libo adventures.

Any actual facts or even enhancements to the legend appreciated.
