From the mailbox

I am representing the widow of a Marine Corps veteran who was stationed in Iwakuni Japan in 1962. He was a postal clerk. He claims to have ridden in the plane with the mail when it was delivered to Danang. He would then spend the night in Danang and return to Japan the next day. We cannot find any sources that would tell us one way or another whether that is something that is likely to have happened. Are there any pilots in this network that may have knowledge of mail delivery practices in the Shufly era that would be willing to state whether this is a credible claim? He was attached to the H&HS-17 MWSG-17, 1st Marine Air Wing from 1/7/62 to 3/9/63 then with SU#! H&MS-11, MAG-11, 1st Marine Air Wing.

I spoke with one of the Marine Corps historians who thought there might be someone in your network that might have served at this time and with this unit and have some knowledge of their mail delivery practices. Any information or direction you could provide would be extremely helpful.

Sincerely,
Shana Dunn
