I am a Quality Assurance Specialist GS-1910/11 with the Defense Contract Management Agency. I am currently stationed at the Sikorsky Aircraft Manufacturing plant at Stratford CT. On 6/28/05 I had to have my CAC (common access card) renewed. (it's the same type ID card that active/reserve/retired military personnel now use).

A group of four of us had new IDs issued at the

Major Joseph M. Loughran Jr. Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center.

I can't recall if the major was the OIC of logistics or just part of the logistics group at Khe Sanh. In his posthumously awarded Legion of Merit which is posted on a memorial wall as you enter the center, it mentioned logistics. Also, was a letter his buddy who was with him waiting for the medivac chopper, wrote to his family.

The major died on May 2, 1968 either en route to or at Delta Med. I was with HMM-262 (CHATTERBOX) at the time as an AE and gunner and later with HMM-364 (SWIFT).

I'm writing this to find out if anyone knows the squadron that medivaced the major to Dong Ha?

Further correspondence from the Home Page said it was a sole UH 34 that was in the area and probably from Phu Bai. I just think that the crew of that bird would appreciate how the Major was honored.
