For about 5 months I have no control of my knee, I can be walking and the leg at the knee just collapse'es. I have peripheral neuropathy in both legs. My left leg is from the knee downl, the right leg only numbness in the foot, until 5 months ago, the same time I started to loose control of my leg. The right leg has neuropathy in the complete leg.

I went to a Orthopedic Dr. because of swelling in my Knee , I thought the swelling was due to my damaging the muscles in the leg. Took Xray's of the knee, and I have bone rubbing bone. I asked if i should have pain answer was yes, but since I had neuropathy I would not feel anything.

He wants to do a knee replacement, but my big question is will my nerves be damaged more and loose control of my Knee completly.

MY QUESTION HAS ANYONEWITH NEUROPTHY HAD A KNEE REPLACEMENT, IF SO WAS THERE MORE DAMAGE DONE TO LEG.

Re: Knee Replacement

Ed

I just had my second one done 2 weeks ago. There is a slight bit of nerve damage but nothing to worry about. My pain is gone and I am walking with a cane. This one was a walk in the park compared to the first one. If you are using the VA make sure the Doc does knee replacements on a regular basis. First Dr at the VA would not match what i had in the right knee. The second Dr said she would give me any kind of knee that I wanted, but she thought it fair to warn me that she did mostly arthriscopic stuff. - so I went outside the VA to get it done. Am extremely happy with the results. Both of mine were hurt in that 53 crash in January of 72.

Ed, I am rated for neuropothy and there is no additional nerve damage of significance.

Re: Knee Replacement

Thanks for the warning, I am not using a va Dr. The doctor I am using is well known here on the coast, and have talked to several retired Marines that has used hIm ,they have nothing but high recomondtions. But they didn't have the nerve damage that I have.

See if you can get some pre-op PT so you have a baseline. Then do your exercises BEFORE surgery. makes rehab a whole lot easier.
