can anyone tell me what the # 401 on this copter stand for? i've seen y-15, yc22 ,ect, then seen 401,403,405 ect. i bought # 405 and wanter to know any history. thx,dave

34 Numbering

In all likelihood, it is probably just a number designation. All squadron aircraft had numbers painted on them to easily identify the aircraft on the flight line, in the air flying or to identify at a distance....might be EH 16 say....squadron call sign Echo Hotel...aircraft #22. I don't believe there was any rhyme or reason to the aircraft numbering...our squadron in Nam was numbered 1 through to 24......
